i work in the retail industry for a global brand, traveling approx 100 days/year in various hotels/cities/airlines across europe. service has become my hobby as well as addiction, and this hotel is in my top 5!!

we had a girls' reunion weekend - 3 best friends - who wanted to share a great room. we'd booked the junior suite and coincidentally arrived for the weekend of the Autumn Festival (1st weekend of Oct, each year - HIGHLY recommended!!). when we'd arrived, the only Jr. Suite remaining was not suitable for a friends' weekend. not only did roberta (front desk) listen to our situation, she partnered with the general manager (dr. carlo fontana) and provided a wonderful solution, for a nicer suite, perfectly suited for 3 best friends to meet. dr. fontana even gave us a tour of the new suite himself, prior to booking.

the room was swiftly adjusted to our needs, extra towels and bathrobes provided without asking. and they supported a great compromise for an upgraded suite which made our weekend truly amazing.

as per other reviews, the breakfast is top notch: homemade cakes, morning muesli, italian-style hot chocolate, various breads/croissants, a juicer (!) from which we had fresh-squeezed carrot juice. the service staff was always present and ready for any possible request.

the location is wonderful, truly! unless you want waterfront views, you can't get better than this.... 20m from the funicular coming down from the train station. 5min walk to the waterfront and main square in town. boutique shopping just outside the front door. we found this was better than being on the waterfront, as it feels more touristy around there.

the hotel informed us that they are upgrading soon to a new service system, where all staff will communicate with each other via iPads. guest preferences will be known prior to arrival (each guest receives their own login page for setting preferences and requests, which was WAY cool!).

the only complaint would be the quality of the beds - pillows were good, however the beds were a bit hard. the quality of bathroom products was also nicer than most. more of the Etro brand would be great.

restaurants: amazing pasta and pumpkin soup at Ristorante Trani. An old wine cellar converted to tasting room/restaurant. Only a 3-min walk from the hotel. Gran Cafe al Porto was another location - wonderful cakes and perfect for a coffee break.

activities: boat tours on the lake. Gandria - a pedestrian town approx 30 min by boat to reach. You can then walk back along the coastline (40min) to the edge of Lugano. Another 40 min walk will take you through the east part of Lugano into the city center, and a chance to see a few things outside of 'tourist-ville' sights.

in a nutshell... when you have a great hotel, you feel as if you're experience the city from the inside out, rather than only looking in as an outsider. our journey both started and ended with lugano dante. i will certainly be back again.
Room Tip: some rooms face courtyard for a quieter experience. the top suite gets some noise from the locals restaurant on the street below, but wasn't bothersome.

Couldn't fault this hotel. Superb customer focussed service - made you feel at home. Was a bit concerned when we found out our room was next to the lift but didn't hear a thing!
Breakfast was the best of the seven hotels we stayed at during our vacation. Nice touches like free soft drinks in room. Loved the ducks too!
Wish more hotels thought about their customer needs in the same way - would definitely stay again.

“Warm welcome, confy bed and absolutely astonishing breakfast”

Arriving pretty late in Lugano, after a long tiring trip, I was warmly welcomed in this small hotel, in the middle of downtown Lugano. There were bunch of sweets and chocolates at the reception, so like a kid, picked up some colourful sweets - as my evening dinner!.
The room was not too big, with a view on the other side of the tiny street directly into another person's apartment, but anyway, it was late, so no scenery to watch was ok.
Bed was very big and occupying 80% of the entire room.
I was impressed that the mini-bar was absolutely free, containing juice and water, plenty enough for myself.
After a good night sleep wrapped in the soft bed (though I'd prefer hard bed), I was astonished by the amount and the diversity at the breakfast. All italian creamy hot chocolate, anti-pasti type, cookies, fruits, giant basket of pastries and salty food. I wish I wasn't in a hurry to taste everything, .... If you want to go there and spend a few hours just for the breakfast, then it's definitely worth.
During check-out, i dived my hand into the sweets again!

Our visit was during the Autumn festival in Lugano. The hotel was very accomidating about the noise and we didn't even have a complaint about it. They were taking precausionary measures; they gave us ear plugs if we needed them. The room was very comfortable and large. The breakfast was the biggest we'd seen on our trip to Europe. You can park your car at the hotel and that is very convienent. Very clean rooms too.

Hotel location could not be better. Short walking distance to Lake Lugano and shopping and eating are right out the front doors.
